Collector of old gramophone records Narayanbhai Mulani passed away. He was 91.
His ardor lay in upholding the musical heritage by amassing and safeguarding gramophone records. While this duty primarily fell upon government agencies, it was the zealous individuals who often took the reins, irrespective of their affluence. Fortunately, Narayan Mulani belonged to the former group, and financial challenges never hindered him from pursuing his passion.
Sadly, Shri. Narayanbhai Mulani passed away on October 24, 2023, at his Mumbai residence after battling a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, son, daughters, and grandchildren. Although he was a businessman by profession, he was more renowned for his dedication to preserving vintage gramophone records from early Hindi films and classical music. His extensive knowledge and collection remained open to researchers and music enthusiasts.
Narayanbhai Mulani played a pivotal role as one of the founding members of the 'Cine Society' in the 1980s and served as the President of the 'Society of Indian Record Collectors,' established in 1990. Additionally, he provided consultancy services to HMV, various film producers, and contributed to the four-part TV series 'Gaata Jaaye Banjara,' produced by Mr. Siddarth Kak in 1990.
